Newlyn in Cornwall is a town
and fishing port whose immediate neighbour is Penzance. The first
record of Newlyn Harbour was in 1435. The Mayflower stopped off
at Newlyn old quay in 1620 to take on water before it continued
its journey to Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Held every year on August bank holiday, celebrates Newlyn's and
Cornwall's, long fishing culture and heritage. The port area of
Newlyn's sea front, has stalls, fish demonstrations, open vessels,
demonstrations by the RNLI and musical entertainment.
Len Scott started the festival in the early 1900's to promote
and protect the local areas fishing industry. The proceeds from
the festival are given to the Fisherman's mission, who help the
family's of fishermen who were injured or lost at sea.
Newlyn School
Was a group of artists based in or around the Newlyn area from
1880 – 1940. Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance
houses many works by these artists.
