Liskeard in the heart of south
east Cornwall is an ancient stannery and market town.
St. Martin's Church
Is the second largest church in the county and dates from the 15th
century, with traces of work from the Norman period. The tower is
20th century.
Stuart House
One of the oldest buildings in Liskeard, it was used by Charles
I in 1644 as a lodging, when chasing the Parliamentarians. Now used
as a community centre for arts, heritage and community events
The Pipewell
First mentioned in the 14th century is fed by 4 springs.
Wall Mural
In Pigmeadow Lane, depicts the history of Liskeard and S.E. Cornwall
from earliest times, the industrial revolution, the railway, and
the social and political impact of life.
The Guildhall
Was built in 1859, and until revently was used as the Magistrates
Court.
The Public Hall
Was built in 1890, now the Town Council Offices
Town Museum and Information Centre
Is at Foresters Hall which was built in 1896

Events in Liskeard
Liskeard Carnival
Held in June, Carnival Queen procession, Floral dance around town,
sponsored walk over Bodmin Moor
St Matthew's Fair
Held in September, it has Town Criers, Continental Market
The Liskeard Show
Annual event held on the 2nd Saturday in July. There are displays,
special events, competitions, entertainment, trade stands, music,
roundabouts and sideshows. Marquees for smaller animals and poultry,
plus teas, bars and crafts.
Places to visit:
Carnglaze Caverns
In 6.5 acres of wooded hillside with tours of 3 underground caverns
which were created by slate miner and has a crystal clear lake.
Within the wooded hillside is an enchanted dell with a collection
of bronze fairies, mushrooms and a dragon, plus waterfall and water
features.
